Job Description

The role involves performing police duties in assigned patrol areas to protect life and property, enforce laws, and prevent and investigate crimes. Key responsibilities include responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, arresting suspects, preparing reports and legal documents, gathering evidence, and ensuring public safety through traffic law enforcement and crime prevention activities. Officers also administer first aid, maintain proficiency in the use of weapons and equipment, and build community partnerships to enhance public safety. Additional duties may involve teaching crime prevention techniques, organizing safety events, and specialized assignments as required.

Experience Incentives

  • Less than 1 year experience (probationary) will receive 40 hours of sick leave and 40 hours of admin leave at the time of hire. They will start at Step 1 on the officer pay scale.
  • 1 year (non-probationary) to less than 5 years of experience will receive 80 hours of sick leave, 80 hours of admin leave, and a signing bonus of $7,500. They will start at Step 2 on the officer pay scale.
  • 5 years or more experience will receive 80 hours of sick leave, 80 hours of admin leave, and a signing bonus of $7,500. They will start at Step 3 on the officer pay scale.
Requirements
To be considered, preferred applicants should present the following:
  • Must be of excellent character.
  • At least 21 years old upon graduation from the police academy.
  • Valid driver's license (Out of state applicants shall obtain an Arizona driver's license at time of hire.)
  • If prior military, must have been honorably discharged.
  • No unlawful use of a narcotic drug or dangerous drug within the last seven years.
  • No pattern of disregarding traffic laws.
  • Not have illegally possessed, produced, cultivated, or transported marijuana for sale or sold marijuana.
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • United States citizen.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • No unlawful use of marijuana within the last three years.
  • No pattern of drug abuse.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Not have ever illegally possessed or used marijuana other than for experimentation.
  • Successfully complete background investigation and polygraph examination.
