JOB DESCRIPTION
The Superintendent serves as the chief executive officer of the Freedom Area School Distirct and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operation of the district. This role involves implementing the Board’s vision, ensuring compliance with educational standards, managing resources effectively, and fostering a positive educational environment for all students.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Policy Implementation
Develops and executes district-wide policies and programs in alignment with the Board’s vision and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Provides leadership in the development of a collaborative decision-making model that ensures input from appropriate individuals and groups, and provides feedback to all those affected by the decisions. - Educational Program Oversight
Oversees the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction programs that meet the needs of students and comply with educational standards.
Monitors and assesses student performance data to inform instructional practices and ensure continuous improvement. - Budget & Financial Management
Prepares and manages the district’s annual budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
Identifies and pursues additional funding opportunities, such as grants or partnerships, to support district initiatives - Personnel Management & Development
Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates district administrators, including school principals.
Promotes professional development opportunities for staff to enhance instructional practices and leadership skills. - Community Engagement & Public Relations
Serves as the primary spokesperson for the district, representing its interests to parents, community members, media outlets, and local government.
Builds and maintains relationships with stakeholders to foster support for district initiatives and ensure transparent communication. - Crisis Management & Problem-Solving
Leads the district’s response to emergencies or crises, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Develops and implements plans to address long-term challenges and promote a positive school climate - Compliance & Reporting
Ensures district operations comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
Prepares and submits required reports to state and federal agencies, as well as the Department of Education.
REQUIREMENT
- Master’s degree in Education Administration or a related field is required.
- At least ten years of experience in school administration, including experience as a principal or district-level administrator.
- Experience in community engagement and stakeholder relations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment
- Doctorate in Education Administration is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in managing budgets and leading educational programs.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- In-depth knowledge of educational laws, policies, and regulations.
- Proficient in budget management and resource allocation.
